Abstarct: Water pollution caused by persistent organic compounds such as synthetic dyes and persistent pharmaceuticals is considered one of the major environmental challenges. In this study, the efficiency of the Electro-Proxone process for the removal of Methyl Orange dye and the pharmaceutical Carbamazepine from aqueous solutions was investigated. The results indicated that Methyl Orange was removed with an efficiency higher than 95% by the Electro-Proxone process alone, without the need for a catalyst. In contrast, the removal of Carbamazepine required the presence of the magnetic nanocomposite Fe₃O₄@CuCr-LDH@Fe-BTC, achieving a removal efficiency of over 90% under optimal conditions. Examination of operational parameters, including initial pH, current density, initial pollutant concentration, and ozone injection rate, showed that these factors play a key role in system performance. Furthermore, comparison of the individual processes (ozonation and electrolysis) with the Electro-Proxone process demonstrated that the combination of these two methods provided higher efficiency in the degradation and mineralization of pollutants. These findings highlight the high potential of the Electro-Proxone process for the removal of organic dyes without the need for a catalyst, as well as the necessity of employing novel catalysts for the removal of resistant pharmaceuticals.
