Abstract
The pistachio borer, Kermania pistaciella Amsel (Lep.: Tineidae), is an important pest of pistachio trees throughout the pistachio growing regions of Iran. In this study, considering the role of pheromone traps in pest control, the possibility of using them to control and catch the pistachio borer in the Mahvalat region of Khorasan Razavi during the 2023-24 crop year was investigated. Two pistachio orchards close to each other, each with an area of one hectare, were used for the experiment. In this study, three types of pheromone traps, Delta, Bali and Funnel, were used at three heights of half a meter, one meter and one and a half meters. The traits of the number of insects caught, the percentage of infested clusters, the number of pistachios in the cluster, the weight of pistachios and the percentage of pistachio hollowness were measured. The results of this experiment showed that the type of trap and the height of the trap had a significant effect on the number of insects caught, the highest number of insects caught in the Bali trap and the height of half a meter, which was 490, and the lowest number of insects caught in the funnel trap and the height of 1.5 meters, which was 18. The results of this experiment also showed that the experimental treatments had a significant effect on the traits of the percentage of pest-infested clusters, the number of pistachios per cluster, the weight of pistachios, and the percentage of pistachio hollowness, so that all of these traits improved when the trap was used. The traits of the number of pistachios per cluster and the weight of pistachios decreased by more than 30 and 40 percent between the trap and spraying treatments, respectively. In general, baxsed on the results of this experiment, it should be stated that the use of an appropriate trap at the appropriate height, in addition to maximizing the number of insects caught, increases the traits of the number of pistachios per cluster and pistachio weight, and also reduces the hollowness of pistachios and pest-infested clusters.
