Nowadays, photocatalysts are considered as a potential solution to control dye pollutants in wastewater using solar energy. In this research, biocompatible polysiloxane (PAMSQ) was synthesized as a porous substrate to stablize AgI/ZnO photocatalysts. The prepared compounds were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD), Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX). Then these compounds were used in the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B, methylene blue and methyl orange organic dyes under LED (24W) irradation. Dye and catalyst concentrations and pH of the solution, as effective parameters, were investigated upto 120 minutes. The optimal conditions were 30 mg PAMSQ@ZnO-AgI in 5 ppm solution of rhodamine B at pH=7 during 90 minutes which resuted to the 98.61% degradation. This photocatalyst could be recovered and reused at the optimum conditios upto 4 times with only 8% degradation reduction. The photocatalytic mechanism of this reaction was also investigated by the use of NaHCO3, ascorbic acid, and isopropanol as holes, superoxide and hydroxyl radicals acvengers and and N2 gas purging to remove dissolved O2. The results shows that ascorbic acid and N2 gas purging lowerd degradaton more and therfore, superoxide radicals are the main active species for the degradation of organic dyes in this photocatalytic process. Additionally, the kinetic of the reaction was investigated and the results have the best coincidence with the pseudo first order kinetic.
