Abstarct: Polyhydroquinolines are of considerable importance due to their diverse biological activities, including antitumor, antibacterial, antitubercular, anti-HIV, and antiviral properties. In this study, various polyhydroquinoline derivatives were synthesized via a four-component reaction of ammonium acetate, aromatic aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate, and dimedone using basil seed mucilage as an efficient biocatalyst. Compatibility with the principles of green chemistry and biodegradability, low cost, ease of preparation, high efficiency under mild reaction conditions, easy separation, and recyclability are among the advantages of using basil seeds in the synthesis of polyhydroquinolines. The basil seeds were washed with ethanol, dried in an oven at 90 °C, and then ground to obtain a uniform powder. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by comparison of their melting points with those reported in the literature and by analysis of ت کلیدی: their ^1H NMR, ^13C NMR, and IR spectra.
