Abstarct: The importance of teacher job satisfaction and autonomy in different aspects of education has been highlighted in recent studies (Chinpakdee, 2022; Sun & Luo, 2023). In addition, due to technological advances in computer-assisted language learning, online education has gained significant popularity in recent years (Zou et al., 2021). Therefore, this study aimed to understand the perceptions of EFL teachers regarding job satisfaction and autonomy in online education. To achieve this, a qualitative study employing semi-structured interviews was conducted. Eight English teachers were purposively selected and interviewed. Using the job demands-resources model as the frxamework, the collected data were thematically analyzed. The analysis identified seven general themes: three themes related to job satisfaction (context-related, student-related, and technology-related factors) and four themes related to teachers' sense of autonomy in online teaching environments (educational, social, administrative, and developmental autonomy). Overall, these findings enhance the understanding of the features of online teaching environments and provide insights for policymakers to facilitate conditions, particularly addressing technology difficulties, thus improving teachers' job satisfaction and retention.
