PE94 : A Comparative Study on the Role of Intercultural Textbooks on EFL Learner’s Perception toward ICC

Abstarct: The objective of this study was a comparative study on the role of Cutting-Edge Pre-Intermediate (Third Edition) textbook on EFL learner’s perception toward intercultural communicative competence. This study employs a quasi-experimental design that includes both an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group were exposed to the Cutting-Edge Pre-Intermediate (Third Edition) textbook, which includes intercultural content, while the control group were exposed to the Vision 3 textbook, which focuses on Iranian culture. The study involved sixty pre-intermediate EFL learners, who were split non-randomly into two groups of thirty each. The participants were selected from an institute in Minoodasht, Golestan Province. A modified version of the Likert-type questionnaire developed by Dmuisembekova (2021) was used for measuring intercultural communicative competence. Research data analyzed by SPSS software. The result show English language textbooks have significant and positive effect on EFL learner’s perception toward intercultural communicative competence, attitudes, knowledge, awareness and skills. The findings of this study underscore the significant and positive impact of English language textbooks on EFL learners' perceptions of intercultural communicative competence. These results have important implications for EFL educators, curriculum designers, and policymakers, emphasizing the need to incorporate intercultural components into language teaching materials to foster learners' cultural understanding, communication skills, and global citizenship.
