Abstarct: Although the prodigious effect of reviewing the related literature has been well specified and well researched, many researchers may not be completely aware of its significance, or for some certain reasons, they ignore the great role of literature review in their studies. So, they review whatever they intend rather than reviewing the related literature. To uncover and exhibit the importance of reviewing the related literature, this study tried to investigate the degree to which researchers in the field of language teacher identity utilized either cherry-picking or completely reviewed the existing literature in order to answer the research questions. Regarding this matter, this study applied two-phase of data collection procedure. Firstly, through some inclusion and exclusion criteria and then by a random sampling process it sampled 50 research papers which were published in both international and domestic contexts. The study followed a non-experimental, descxriptive design which implemented both quantitative and qualitative procedures to achieve the goals of the study. baxsed on the findings of the study, it was shown that in domestic context, there is a great difference in percentage of papers which review the related literature and those which were involved in cherry-picking. Then, in international context a considerable difference was found in percentage between the completely reviewed papers and cherry-picked ones. As a result, a great difference in percentage was revealed in international and domestic papers. In conclusion, the results of the study can broaden the academics’ understanding about the different ways of improving the quality of the articles through analyzing the published papers and considering different courses for academic writing.
