Abstarct: Optimal use of solar energy has always been one of the main concerns of mankind in achieving sustainable development and improving the quality of life. In the meantime, passive solar systems have found a special place in sustainable architectural design due to their simplicity, low cost and appropriate efficiency. The Trombe wall, as one of the most effective methods of passive solar systems, plays an important role in improving the thermal performance of buildings and providing thermal comfort to residents. This wall has been developed in various types, each of which has different characteristics and efficiencies. In this research, using a qualitative method and library studies in the scoping review method, a comparative analysis and study of the types of Trombe walls has been carried out. The main focus has been on comparing the thermal performance of the "Classic Trombe Wall" as a common example and the "Zigzag Trombe Wall" as an innovative type. In order to accurately evaluate the performance of these two types of walls, in addition to performing software simulations using reliable thermal analysis tools, a scaled-down laboratory model was also built to allow for the validation of simulation results with real data. The study area in this study is the city of Kashan, and the time period evaluated for the models was considered to be the weekly winter peak. During this period, the building faces the highest heating demand and passive heating systems are in the most severe operating conditions; therefore, examining the performance of the Trombe wall in this period represents the maximum power and real limitations of the system. Also, in this study, the utility systems were considered to be generally off in order to clearly express the performance of the Trombe wall models. The results of this study show that the classic Trombe wall, compared to the zigzag type, has higher thermal efficiency during the winter weekly peak period, as assessed by temperature indices, PMV, PPD, and operative temperature, and shows more effective performance in terms of creating more favorable thermal comfort conditions for residents. This finding can be used as a practical guide for architects and designers to optimize the design of passive solar systems in different climates.
