Abstarct: Statement of the issue:
Privacy, as one of the pillars of Iranian-Islamic architecture, has been weakened in the trend of contemporary apartment living, and this has had direct messages on the quality of life of residents, especially women. Women who spend the most time in residential environments need spaces that provide psychological security, peace of mind, and the ability to control social relationships for shopping. However, many new residential complexes are built without a suitable environment for privacy, which is the subject of this study.
Research and investigation:
This study was formed with the aim of investigating the impact of women on life in residential complexes. In this regard, the main questions: 1) What are the factors in creating privacy in a residential unit?
2) How does the quality of privacy in a residential unit affect women's lives?
Sub-questions include: 1) How can the quality of life of women in residential complexes be increased?
2) Why is privacy important in women's lives?
Research method:
The research method is applied and descxriptive-analytical. Data were collected through library studies, field observations, and questionnaires. The statistical population was women living in Almas residential complex in Mashhad, and the sample was determined using the Cochran formula. SPSS software and Pearson correlation and multiple regression statistical tests were used to analyze the data.
Findings:
The results showed that privacy has a positive and significant effect on women's quality of life (r=0.654). Privacy alone explains more than 42 percent of the changes in quality of life. Among privacy, cultural-vegetation (b=0.407) and psychosocial (b=0.327) contribute the most to improving quality of life. The findings also indicated that architectural quality can only be effective in quality of life if it provides the basis for strengthening privacy.
Conclusion:
This study shows that addressing privacy in the architecture of residential complexes is not a purely traditional matter, but the most important basis for improving women's quality of life. Using vegetation to enhance visual privacy, creating semi-private and controlled spaces, improving the placement of entrances and windows, and providing appropriate and functional sound insulation of the interior space are among the options that can provide privacy and, as a result, improve the quality of life for women in residential complexes.
