The development of sports startups represents a significant form of modern entrepreneurship that plays a vital role in economic growth, innovation, job creation, and the advancement of the sports industry. Despite their considerable potential, sports startups encounter numerous challenges, environmental uncertainties, and high failure rates. Therefore, a systematic identification and analysis of the factors influencing their development, along with the barriers they face, is essential for entrepreneurs, investors, sports managers, and policymakers. The main purpose of this study was to conceptually analyze the factors affecting the development of sports startups and to identify the associated challenges, obstacles, and limitations through a systematic approach. This research is applied in purpose and qualitative-exploratory in nature, employing the mexta-synthesis method. The research corpus consisted of scientific articles, theses, research reports, and credible domestic and international sources related to startups, sports entrepreneurship, and new venture management, published between 2012 and 2025. Relevant studies were selected baxsed on precise inclusion and exclusion criteria and in consultation with academic experts. Data were systematically collected through comprehensive searches in national and international academic databaxses and analyzed using MAXQDA software through open, axial, and selective coding, followed by thematic synthesis. As a result, a comprehensive conceptual frxamework was developed, comprising 14 main dimensions and 100 components for factors influencing sports startup development, and 9 dimensions and 47 components for the barriers and challenges. The validity and reliability of the proposed model were confirmed using the Kappa coefficient and feedback from a panel of experts in a focus group session. The findings of this study contribute to the theoretical advancement of sports entrepreneurship literature by providing an integrated conceptual model. From a practical perspective, the frxamework offers valuable insights for informed decision-making by entrepreneurs and managers, as well as for designing targeted support policies aimed at fostering the sustainable development of sports startups in Iran and other developing countries.
