GV334 : The effect of social capital on evangelistic behavior of football fans with the mediator role of club identification

Abstarct: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of social capital on the evangelistic behavior of football fans with the mediating role of club identity. The present study is applied in terms of purpose; in terms of method, it is descxriptive-correlational, which was conducted using a modeling method baxsed on structural models. The statistical population of the study included all fans of selected clubs in the Iranian Premier Football League (Esteghlal, Persepolis, Tractor, and Sepahan), whose exact number is unknown. Using G-Power software, 215 individuals were selected as the research sample through convenience sampling. To collect data, the demographic characteristics form, the Evangelistic Behavior Questionnaire by Dozier et al. (2015), the Club Identification Questionnaire by Mael and Ashforth (1992), and the Social Capital Questionnaire by Lin and Liu (2011) were employed. In order to test the research hypotheses, structural equation modeling was used. Also, data analysis was performed using SPSS and PLS software.The results showed that social capital has a positive and significant effect on fan behavior, has a positive and significant social effect on club identity, and club identity has a positive and significant effect. Fan evangelistic behavior has a significant and positive mediating role in the relationship between social capital and fan evangelistic behavior. According to the research results, it is suggested that football clubs strengthen fan evangelistic behaviors by strengthening social capital through more interactions with fans, holding community events, and promoting a sense of solidarity and club identity. Also, designing programs to increase fans' attachment to clubs can be considered as a treatment strategy to strengthen the mediating role of identity in this relationship.
